Over 3.5 tonnes of waste collected from Manoel Island Marina

More than 3.5 tonnes of waste was collected from Manoel Island Marina through the collaborative efforts of sixty volunteers alongside members of the environmental non-governmental organisation Zibel, on Saturday, February 3rd. The assortment of waste consisted of plastic, ropes, fishing gear, glass, and various mixed materials.

Whilst thanking Zibel for spearheading this initiative, Mark Portelli, CEO of MIDI, said that we are proud to be associated with one of the most proactive eNGOs in Malta. He highlighted the significant role their commitment plays in raising awareness about sustainability and preserving Malta's vital natural asset, the sea, free from litter and waste.

Andrew Schembri, the founder of Zibel, extended appreciation to MIDI for their ongoing support and for providing docking facilities for their boats at Manoel Island Marina. Despite Zibel's substantial growth since its establishment in 2017, Schembri emphasized the organisation's enduring commitment to fostering a cleaner environment and promoting education on sustainable living.

The cleanup initiative received additional backing from Saving Our Blue, the Ministry for the Environment, Energy, and Enterprise, as well as ERA - the Environment and Resource Authority.
