Fort Manoel Open Day - 2nd June 2019
MIDI plc welcomes the public to the next open day at Fort Manoel on Sunday 2nd June 2019 between 9:00am and 5:00pm.
Come and enjoy a day at Fort Manoel where besides admiring the French military architecture of the fort, as built by knights of St. John, and the restoration efforts undertaken by MIDI plc you can also enjoy and learn about the Romans of the 1st Century.
The Legio X Fretensis re-enactment group will carry out drills, sketches and involve the public in Roman period re-enactments during the open day. The re-enactment group was founded in 2006 and represents the military and civilian life of the Romans of the 1st Century. The group portrays different officers such as the tribune, centurion, optio and standard bearers. The civilian aspect is represented by women in different roles and a senator.
The group will convert part of the fort’s piazza into a Roman camp settlement by re-enacting scenes typical of that time, military formations, tactics and educational talks.
The equipment displayed by Legio X Fretensis has been obtained from reliable sources based on archaeological discoveries and is well researched.
A tour of Fort Manoel will also be held at 11:00am by the fort’s curator Perit Edward Said.
Entrance is free. For further information kindly call on telephone number (+356) 2065 5500 or send an email to email@example.com.
